Stanley's Gig is based on a true story. Stanley Meyer (William Sanderson) is a socially awkward, down-and-out musician. His entire life has been filled with failure and alcoholism, but he's always had one big dream: Stanley would like to have a job playing his ukulele music on a cruise ship to Hawaii. When he gets a job playing his ukulele at a nursing home, his life is transformed when he makes the acquaintance of Eleanor (Maria Gibbs), an old nightclub performer. Eleanor wakes up Stanley's soul and helps him discover who he really is, which inspires Stanley to follow his dreams to reach his full potential in life. Stanely also gets help from his friend, Lei La (Faye Dunnaway) who is also a recovering alcoholic. Through the memories of Eleanor's past, Stanley is able to forge ahead into his future filled with more promise and confidence than he has ever had.
