Stardust Memories is a 1980 comedy written, directed, and starring Woody Allen. The film is based on the story of well-known and loved filmmaker Sandy Bates (Woody Allen). Bates reached the peak of his popularity in his early years when he produced lighthearted comedies. He recently took a turn for more serious films, hoping to leave a legacy other than just simple laughter. The film opens with Bates reluctantly agreeing to attend a two-day event focused on his films. While there, he meets a number of old friends and acquaintances, as well as many fans who profess their love for his older work. A central theme of the film is revealed when Bates becomes involved with two women, Daisy (Jessica Harper), and Isobel (Marie-Christine Barrault). Daisy presents the image of a young, attractive woman, while Isobel is an older, motherly figure to Bates. He spends much of the film trying to decide which woman is the best fit for him.
