Stargate: The Ark of Truth is a 2008 science fiction film written and directed by Robert C. Cooper. It is based on the popular television series Stargate SG-1. When a special squad of space explorers known as SG-1 hears of the existence of an alien brainwashing device, they are determined to recover it. The team wants to keep the device, nicknamed the Ark of Truth, away from the Ori, evil ascended beings who trick people into worshipping them as gods. When archaeologist Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) learns that the Ark of Truth is hidden somewhere in the Ori galaxy, the team goes through the Stargate portal to find it. As they attempt to uncover the location of the Ark, Ori warriors and Ori sympathizers known as Priors try to thwart their mission. Meanwhile, Earth is threatened by the arrival of a Prior who demands that humans begin to follow the Origin religion.
