Starz Inside: In the Gutter is a documentary produced by the premium cable channel Starz. The documentary focuses on the history of dirty jokes and gross-out humor and offers a look at the popularity of this juvenile over-the-top frat-house humor. The origins of this type of comedy are traced all the way back to William Shakespeare, whose plays contained bawdy humor and fart jokes, to the Three Stooges (slapstick comedy was once considered taboo). Each generation of raunchy comedians has to outdo the previous generation. As society has become increasingly permissive, the gross out comedy movies have to go farther and farther in order to get a reaction from audiences. No matter how far these comedians have gone in the past, they are up to the challenge of going further in the future. This documentary features clips of some of the grossest scenes in the history of cinema and includes interviews with John Waters, Peter Riegert, Stephen Furst, Lin Shaye and many many more.moreless
