State of Mind is an atmospheric 1992 psychological thriller centered around a physically injured couple who are mysteriously induced into a dream-like trance after a misfortunate accident. The film is based on a story by Johan Vandewoestijne. Phil Van Tongeren and Reginald Adamson adapt the story to film which Adamson directs. Ruth (Lisa Gaye) and Jack (Don Hannah) see their lives flash before their eyes as they tumble within an airborne car. They are most definitely destined to die. However, they are miraculously saved by an ex-nurse who just so happened to pass by the scene of the accident. Rather than treating Ruth and Jack on spot, this heroic, albeit strange nurse decides to take the duo back to her house and treat them there. Ruth and Jack are given plenty of painkillers and begin hallucinating. Soon they are unable to distinguish reality from illusion in the dream-like trance their caretaker has helped induce. Detective Loomis (Fred Williamson) is determined to explain the weird events surrounding the couple's disappearance. Is it possible this nurse isn't who she says she is? The film includes performances by Pablo Catry, Dominiek Berten, Jill Schoelen and Jacinto Molina. State of Mind is at the very least worthy for those who enjoy exploitation film. A Belgian classic, not intended for the squeamish!moreless
