Stateside is a 2004 drama directed by Reverge Anselmo. Released by Samuel Goldwyn films and starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Jonathon Tucker, Joe Mantegna, Carrie Fisher and Val Kilmer, the movie is about two young, star-crossed lovers. Mark DeLoack (Jonathon Tucker) is a rich, spoiled teenager from a privileged background, serving in the Marines in order to avoid spending time in prison for a car crash he was involved in. While in boot-camp, Mark is mentored by a tough, no-nonsense drill instructor named Skeer (Val Kilmer). Staff Sergeant Skeer makes it his personal mission to turn Mark into a respectable man and teach him about life. On break from the Marines, Mark, in trying to make amends with the victim of his car accident, meets her sister Dori Lawrence (Rachael Leigh Cook). Dori is a former actress and singer who has taken time off to treat her schizophrenia. Despite the fact that everyone in their lives is against their relationship, Mark and Dori fall deeply in love. As time passes, Dori's schizophrenia worsens and Mark is shipped off to Beirut for combat. Will their love survive?
