Movie Summary

Director:
Marc Forster
Released:
2005
Rating:
R
Stay is a 2005 thriller from the acclaimed director Marc Foster. At its base, it is the story of a suicidal art student, Henry Letham (Ryan Gosling), and his new psychiatrist, Dr. Sam Foster (Ewan McGregor). Henry is having serious troubles in his life and is seeing the university shrink. She takes a sabbatical and Dr. Foster is asked to fill in for a time. This pushes Henry into a frenzy, and he shows up at the office to announce that he will kill himself on Saturday at midnight. The rest of the film follows the lives of Henry and Dr. Foster, and how they come to achieve a final solution. There is much more than a literal story, and the layers often oscillate between dream and reality, and the viewer is left to decide what is real or imagined. The line between real and imagined can become blurred, and Stay explores this position of the mind.
