Staying Together is an emotional 1989 indie drama which centers around three young brothers as they face an unexpected twist in their plans for the future. The film was written by Monte Merrick and directed by Lee Grant. Brian (Tim Quill), Kit (Dermot Mulroney) and Duncan (Sean Astin) live life a little too freely thanks to the jobs they've inherited from their dad. All three work together at a family restaurant, and while each one does his due part, they aren't very concerned with the future. They rely on their father's business which they presume will one day become theirs when he retires. Things change when their father unexpectedly sells the business to someone on the outside. Now Brian, Kit, and Duncan must confront reality like everyone else. The film does a good job of focusing on the different dynamics and relationships within the entire family, rather than telling a story of each man's struggle. A great film about family dysfunction that will leave you feeling better about the struggles you undoubtedly face at home.moreless
