Street Life is a 2004 comedy based on a popular sketch comedy series from the UK. The film follows a group of famous and sometimes infamous celebrities who have decided to leave the harshness of the public spotlight behind and try out the quiet, peaceful life on residential Stella Street. Michael Caine (Phil Cornwell) tries his hardest to just relax, but it is difficult with Keith Richard (John Sessions) running the corner shop and David Bowie (Phil Cornwell) always worrying about his laundry. Caine's neighbors also include the likes of Al Pacino (Joe Sessions), Jack Nicholson (Phil Cornwell), Penelope Cruz (Ronni Ancona) and Madonna (Ronni Ancona). As the superstars bump shoulders, pick fights, hobnob with the locals and try to adjust to the simple life, a disaster looms on the horizon. When it becomes clear that something fishy is happening to the funds of everyone on Stella Street, the celebrities start to miss the glamorous lives they left behind.

Metacritic Score

  • 60

    Variety Derek Elley

    A hip comic curio.

  • 50

    The New York Times

The concept doesn't translate well to the longer form. The sense of the absurd is watered down.

  • 40

    Los Angeles Times

Once the filmmakers have got the celebrities settled into Stella Street, they have a hard time figuring out what to do with them. Stella Street is the road best not taken.
