Still Of The Night is a 1982 thriller written and directed by Robert Benton. Dr. Sam Rice (Roy Scheider) receives bad news about one of his patients, George Bynum (Josef Sommer): the police found Bynum's body and foul play is suspected. It seems that Rice is now a prime suspect, and the psychiatrist has to field visits from Detective Vitucci (Joe Grifasi). Beautiful Brooke Reynolds (Meryl Streep) also seeks Rice's advice and help. She used to be involved with Bynum and worries about the fact that she is now a suspect. Seduced and fascinated by the vulnerable young woman, Rice agrees to work with her to unravel the mystery of Bynum's death and bring the true killer to justice. As they dodge the police and work their way through Bynum's files, Rice starts to notice that Brooke is acting more and more suspicious. The psychiatrist starts to worry that the real killer has been by his side all along.
