Stone Pillow is the 1985 made-for-TV movie in which a homeless woman, Florabelle (Lucille Ball), befriends a young social worker, Carrie Lang (Daphne Zuniga), in a shelter and exposes her to the world. Carrie, just out of college, is both shocked and fascinated by the urban underworld. Florabelle insists that she doesn't need any help but decides to trust Carrie when she saves Florabelle's shopping cart. Florabelle thinks Carrie is herself homeless, and she shows her what it takes to survive on the streets, teaching her to do things like rub vinegar on her feet to toughen them up. She gives her a tour of the best places to sleep and to find warm food. When she finds Carrie working at a homeless shelter, she feels betrayed, and Carrie's attempts to restore the relationship are both tender and tentative. Carrie comes to realize that she can only take on homelessness one person at a time, and she has in mind the one she wants to save.moreless
