Stop-Loss is a dramatic film directed by Kimberly Peirce that centers on the struggle of a veteran soldier finally home after his necessary tour of duty as he is ordered back thanks to the United States' military's stop-loss policy. Army Staff Sergeant Brandon King (Ryan Phillippe) and his good friend Steve Shriver (Channing Tatum) finally returned to their hometown in Texas after a traumatic firefight in an Iraqi village with Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts. When Steve begins to slowly fall into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, even to the point of building foxholes in his front yard, his fiancee Michelle (Abbie Cornish) calls Brandon for help. Though Steve's condition gets worse, it seems that the two are called back into active duty again despite their completed tours. Brandon's ultimately refusal puts him at odds with the American government as he tries to find a way to not return to the war, even though his options leave him unable to return to the US if he chooses to run to Canada or Mexico. It seems that though Brandon came back to the US hoping to put the war and its horrors behind him, he is inevitably forced to face them again.moreless
