Storm Over Asia (also "Potomok Chingiskhana" or "Heir to Genghis Khan") is a classic 1928 Russian epic from director Vsevolod Pudovkin, the third part of his "revolutionary trilogy." The film follows the life of Bair (Val''ry Inkijinoff), "The Son", a simple mongol herder and trapper. One day, Bair is cheated in a deal over some furs by an unscrupulous English buyer. The resulting scuffle results in his banishment from the trading post and resentment toward western capitalists. Two years later, Bair has become a Soviet revolutionary fighting against the occupying British army led by the cunning Commandant (I. Dedintsev). Bair is eventually captured and shot. But upon inspection of his wounded body, the British find an amulet that leads the Commandant to believe that he may be a direct descendant of Genghis Khan. A plan is hatched to set Bair up as the figurehead of a puppet government to pacify the rebels. Little do they realize that Bair will make plans of his own.moreless
