Written and directed by Jeff Burr, Straight into Darkness is a 2004 American film starring Ryan Francis, Scott MacDonald, and Linda Thorson. The film tells the story of Losey (Francis) and Demming (MacDonald), American GI's fighting in World War II who are on their way to be court marshaled. When the two men survive a land-mine explosion, they decide to abandon their platoon and head deeper into Europe. Together they must find a way to survive in the war-ravaged land, and when they encounter a group of disabled orphans, a unique friendship is formed. The orphans, however, are unique in their own right. They have been trained in combat as killing machines in hopes of defending themselves against Nazis. Losey, Demming, and the orphans must band together if they have any hope of surviving the horrors of war torn Europe. Straight into Darkness received mixed reviews from critics and was not a box office success.
