Straight-Jacket is a romantic comedy about a 1950's Hollywood star who attempts to hide his sexuality by marrying a woman. Good-looking Hollywood heart-throb Guy Stone (Matt Letscher) has a reputation of being a ladies' man. In reality, he is hiding a secret that could destroy his career. After Guy is arrested in a gay nightclub raid, his manager, Jerry Albrecht (Veronica Cartwright), arranges a quick sham marriage to the young studio secretary Sally (Carrie Preston) to salvage his image. This move soon turns his life upside down. Although Sally is head over heels for Guy, she is completely oblivious to the fact that he is gay. In the meantime, a handsome young hunk named Rick Foster (Adam Greer) enters Guy's life. He now faces the dilemma of openly expressing his love for Rick or telling Sally the truth. Either way, his honesty could very well ruin his reputation and end his career.

Metacritic Score

  • 70

    Variety Joe Leydon

A fey and frisky farce with a fabulous fashion sense, Straight-Jacket artfully balances broadly campy humor and ironically overplayed soap opera.

  • 60

    Los Angeles Times

Whatever pleasures it holds, Straight-Jacket is highly uneven.

  • 20

The New York Times Stephen Holden

Played in a loud sketch-comedy style that might be described as "Gay Mad TV." The haranguing, badly acted farce wears out its comic welcome within half an hour.
