Straight Time is a 1978 drama starring Dustin Hoffman trying desperately to not return to a life of crime. Lifetime criminal Max Dembo (Dustin Hoffman) gets out on parole for burglary. His parole officer, Earl Frank (M. Emmet Walsh), has no doubt that Max will be back in prison soon enough. Max manages to get a job at a can factory due to the kindness of Jenny Mercer (Theresa Russell), a clerk at the job office. Max meets up with an old friend, Willy (Gary Busey), who leaves drug paraphernalia in Max's room. When Max returns after a date with Jenny, he finds his parole officer who has found the evidence to put him back in prison for a week. When Max gets out again, Officer Frank is waiting by the gate. Max knows he will always be a criminal and steps right back to crime. He plots a bank robbery with old partner Jerry Schue (Harry Dean Stanton), while hiding out at Jenny's apartment.moreless
