Strategic Air Command is a drama film about trying to balance a career with a love life. Lieutenant Colonel Robert 'Dutch' Holland (James Stewart) is a former U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer who is playing professional baseball. During spring training, he is recalled back to active duty, upsetting his wife, Sally (June Allyson), who does not want to be a military wife. Nevertheless, Sally tells Dutch she wants him to do whatever makes him happy. Dutch begins to fly a B-36 and becomes injured when he is forced to crash land the plane. Due to his heroic efforts, General Hawkes (Frank Lovejoy) promotes Dutch to colonel and reassigns him to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida so he can be closer to home. As time goes by and Dutch's active duty assignment begins to come to an end, he is forced to make the decision to either stay in the Air Force, much to his wife's displeasure, or return to Major League Baseball.moreless
