Street Scene (1931) is a black-and-white romance/drama adapted by Elmer Rice from his Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The story is a realistic account of life over twenty-four hours in 1930 New York's Hells Kitchen tenements and the younger generation's striving to get out. The film was produced by Samuel Goldwyn, directed by King Vidor and the music was composed by Alfred Newman.
