Movie Summary

Strike was inspired by the true story of Agnieszka (Katharina Thalbach) who began the solidarity movement in Poland. She was a single working mother working as a welder and after seeing very poor working conditions, speaks up against the problems they are all facing. She, unlike the rest of the workers, challenges the things as they are. Nothing happens. However, after a horrible accident kills several employees and their families receive no help, she steps up the fight and begins to start what would later be known as the solidarity movement. This story speaks of the fight of the workers both in Poland and around the world, the freedom the workers fought for and the fact that one person however small can make a real difference. Do you think that just one person could change the entire course of history? It is an amazing story told from the heart by Director Volker Schlondorff.
