Striking Distance is a 1993 thriller directed by Rowdy Herrington. Pittsburgh Police Sergeant Tom Hardy (Bruce Willis) has reported his partner and cousin, Jimmy Detillo (Robert Pastorelli), for using too much force against a suspect. Jimmy decides to commit suicide rather than face going to prison. Tom and his father, Captain Vince Hardy (John Mahoney), get involved in a chase to catch a serial killer nicknamed the Polish Hill strangler. Tom is knocked unconscious following a car crash while chasing a suspect and awakes to learn that his father has been killed, most likely at the hands of the Polish Hill strangler. A suspect is caught but Tom is far from convinced about his guilt. Two years later there are further murders of women who had all previously dated Tom, convincing him that the serial killer is still at large. Tom is assigned a new partner, Jo Christman (Sarah Jessica Parker), but Christman's real name is Emily Harper and she has been tasked with investigating Tom to find evidence of misconduct. Tom becomes a suspect in the murders but he remains convinced that the killer is linked with the police force. The film progresses towards a conclusion and the true identity of the killer.
