Sugar is a baseball film that focuses on one man's fight to make it to the majors. Miguel "Sugar" Santos (Perez Soto) is an aspiring baseball player living in the Dominican Republic. He is known around his community as a star, signing baseballs for children and pitching for the townspeople. Sugar hopes he can go to the United States to play baseball so he can earn money to build a house for his mother. After learning how to throw a curveball, scouts see his talent, and he is signed to the Kansas City Knights. He is sent to their AAA affiliate in Iowa, where he lives with a generous family, the Higgins. Sugar soon realizes, however, that living in a different country is not as easy as he thought. Between struggling with injuries and trying to learn English, Sugar wonders if he made a mistake coming to the United States. Sugar was written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.moreless
