Sunset Park is a sports film that focuses on the attempt of a high school basketball team to overcome their personal problems and win a championship. Sunset Park High School is searching for someone to coach their boy's basketball team. Although she knows nothing about basketball, Phyllis Saroka (Rita Perlman) is looking for a way to make money so she can open her own restaurant. When she hears about the open coaching position, she contacts the school and gets the job. At first, the team thinks she is a joke because she is a woman and she has no basketball knowledge. Phyllis learns about the game from her players, and with their help, she is able to properly coach them. However, the personal problems of her players, including Tyrik Russell (Fredro Starr), and Spaceman (Terrence Howard), make Phyllis wonder if she can help the team overcome their issues and lead them to the championship game in Madison Square Garden. Sunset Park was directed by Steve Gomer and produced by Danny DeVito.moreless
