Sunset is a charming 1988 comedy mystery that brings the Old West into the Hollywood studio system. In the late 1920s, film producer Alfie Alperin (Malcolm McDowell) invites the legendary cowboy Wyatt Earp (James Garner) to Los Angeles to advise on a movie about his life. Alperin also happens to be married to Earp's former love, Christina (Patricia Hodge). Silent screen star Tom Mix (Bruce Willis) has been cast as Earp in the picture, unfortunately the two big personalities instantly clash. Tom tries to mend fences by taking Wyatt out to the glamorous Kit-Kat club, but shortly after their arrival, a murder is discovered. The old law man and the movie star partner up and start to solve the mystery. There's an intriguing set of suspects from a gangster, Dutch Kieffer (Joe Dallesandro) to a starlet Cheryl (Muriel Hemingway) and, most surprisingly, the producer Alperin, who employs them both. Writer/director Blake Edwards ("The Pink Panther") lushly recreates old style Hollywood in this tantalizing mix.
