Movie Summary

Bryan Singer

It has been 5 years since Superman left earth in search of the remains of Krypton. And just when the world thought they didn't need him anymore, he returns just in time to save a plane from plummeting to earth. On the plane is Superman's old love, reporter for the Daily Planet, Lois Lane. But unfortunately too much time has passed and Lois has moved on. Aside from marrying the son of Daily Planet editor-in-chief, Perry White, having a young child, and taking up smoking, Lois has turned her back on Superman and recently won a Pulitzer Prize for her article Why the World Doesn't Need Superman. While he was away, someone else from Superman's past has been busy as criminal mastermind Lex Luthor was released from prison and married a rich aging widow, and upon her death has inherited all of her fortune. With his new found bankroll and previous knowledge of Superman's fortress of solitude, Luthor steals kryptonite and sets out to create a new continent causing sea levels to rise and drowning the rest of the world. It is once again up to Superman to defeat Lex Luthor, save the world and the ones he loves from destruction.

  • TRIVIA (0)

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Superman: (speaking quietly to his sleeping son) You will be different. Sometimes, you will feel like an outcast. But you'll never be alone. You will make my strength your own. You will see my life through your eyes as your life will be seen through mine. The son becomes the father... and the father becomes the son.

    • Jason: (looking at an unconscious Superman) Mommy? Is he gonna get better?
      Lois: I don't know?
Jason: I want him to. I like him.
      Lois: Me too.

    • Jason: (meeting Lex for the first time) You're bald.

    • Lois: Where'd you go?
      Superman: To Krypton.
Lois: But you told me it was destroyed.
Superman: Ages ago it was. But when astronomers thought they found it... I had to see for myself.

    • Richard: So, with the super-hearing, does he hear each sound by itself or everything at once?
      Lois: Both.
Richard: He's certainly a lot taller than I thought.
      Lois: 6'4".
Richard: I love that he can see through anything. I'd have fun with that.
      Lois: Anything but lead.
      Richard: I bet he's--
Lois: 225 pounds...faster than a speeding bullet...draws his powers from the sun, invulnerable to anything but kryptonite...and he never lies.
      Richard: Kryptonite?
Lois: Radioactive pieces of his homeworld. It's deadly to him.
Richard: Lois, how tall would you say Clark was?
      Lois: About 6'3", 6'4".
Richard: About 200, 215 pounds? (Clark goofily waves) [they laugh]

    • Clark: Jimmy, how did Lex Luthor get out of prison?
Jimmy: Well, the appeals court called Superman as a witness and he wasn't around. How much do you think that pisses off Superman?
      Clark: A lot.

    • Superman: (Superman has just stopped an airplane from crashing) Well, I hope this experience hasn't put you off flying. Statistically speaking it's still the safest way to travel.

    • Lex: (gazing into a clear Kryptonian crystal) It's like a seed. And all it needs is water.
      Kitty: Like uh... sea-monkeys.
      Lex : Exactly, Kitty.

    • Perry: Kent?
Clark: Hey, chief. Thank you for giving me my job back.
Perry: Don't thank me. Thank Norm Palmer who died.

    • Lex: I just want what Prometheus wanted.
Kitty: Sounds great, Lex, but you're not a god.
Lex: Gods are selfish beings who fly around in little red capes and don't share their power with mankind.

    • Lex: You see, whoever controls technology controls the world. The Roman Empire ruled the world because they built roads. The British Empire ruled the world because they built ships. America, the atom bomb, and so on and so forth.
