Superstar is a 1999 comedy directed by Bruce McCulloch and written by Molly Shannon. The film is a Saturday Night Live spin-off based on the character Mary Katherine Gallagher (Molly Shannon). Mary Katherine Gallagher is a socially inept teenage girl who attends St. Monica High School, a Roman Catholic private school. Among her peers, Mary Katherine is seen as an oddball, and she is often made fun of and ridiculed. Her situation is only made worse when she is sent to Special Education classes. In her new classroom, Mary Katherine meets Helen (Emmy Laybourne), an equally strange girl. The two girls become quick friends and try to survive life among the other girls at school. Mary Katherine does have one wish. Her deepest wish in life is to share a deep passionate, Hollywood-style, kiss with Sky Corrigan (Will Ferrell), the object of her affection. After many failed attempts, Mary Katherine realizes the only way she will ever get her kiss is to become a superstar like the actresses in the films. When her high school sponsors a talent show, she thinks she might get the chance she needs. Will Mary Katherine become a superstar and get her Hollywood kiss?moreless
