Surviving Desire, a Hal Hartley indie film, is the age-old tale of forbidden love. This romantic comedy is the classic story of two lovers who have to face the weight of the world to be together. Professor Jude (Martin Donovan) and one of his students Sofie (Mary B. Ward) find themselves unable to resist their attraction to one another. They begin a romance that soon depicts the very subject of the professor's Russian literature class. It is not long before the walls around them begin to come crashing down. A relationship between student and professor is not only against the rules, but destined for failure. But the love that Jude and Sofie share is something so strong that giving up just doesn't seem to be an option. This small film gives the world a look into the lives of those who choose unconventional relationships and the struggles that come along with it.
