1998

PG-13
Sweet Revenge is witty comedy about a pair of would be suicide victims that decide to help each other seek revenge on the other's wrongdoer. On a fatefully ludicrous night, Henry Bell (Sam Neill) and Karen Knightly (Helena Bonham Carter) both head to the same London bridge with the intention of committing suicide. But upon meeting one another the two decide that while their lives are pretty pathetic, they aren't that bad, and come up with a better solution to solving their problems; they will team up and get back at the one who drove the other person to end it all. So Karen gets a job as a receptionist for Bruce Tick (Steve Coogan), the boss that fired Henry, and manipulates him into believing a whole litany of lies. And Henry takes aim at Imogen Staxton Billing (Kristin Scott Thomas), the woman who stole back her husband from Karen, who was enjoying a lovely affair with the married man. But with the unexpected at an all time high, revenge may just prove to be harder than avoiding death for this odd duo. Malcom Mowbray directs this very English and rather dark tale of manipulative hijinks.moreless
