Swing Shift is a 1984 comedy drama by Oscar wining director Jonathan Demme that portrays a crazy romance during WWII. Kay (Goldie Hawn) and Jack (Ed Harris) live in Pasadena. Both survive in an uneventful marriage until the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor, which prompts Jack to join the Navy. He heads off to fight the war leaving Kay behind with little money and a lot of time on her hands. She decides to help in the war effort and takes a job at a rivet factory in Santa Monica. There, Kay meets her neighbor Hazel (Christine Lahti) for the first time. She also meets Lucky (Kurt Russell), a factory foreman who moonlights as a musician. Lucky starts to fall for Kay, who at first resists his advances. Hazel informs Kay to be gentle with Lucky because of his bad heart, which kept him from enlisting. Kay eventually gives in to Lucky, and both live a passionate summer romance, that is until Jack returns home. Kay dumps Lucky, and quits her job to be with her husband. A jealous Lucky starts to an take interest in Hazel. Kay soon realizes that things are different with her husband. She tells Jack of her affair, which sets him off to face Lucky.
