Swiss Family Robinson is a 1960 family adventure film directed by Ken Annakin. Shipwrecked on a deserted tropical island on their way to New Guinea, the family must work together to build a new life. Led by Father Robinson (John Mills), the family sets about building a massive tree house with all the comforts of a modern life. Truly self-reliant, each member of the family taps into their own special skills to transform their surrounding. The mother, Elizabeth (Dorothy McGuire), showing incredibly foresight continually dips into her purse to extract necessities like a sewing kit and vegetable seeds. Son's Fritz (James MacArthur), Ernst (Tommy Kirk, Francis (Kevin Corcoran) expert marksmanship and physical process provide the muscle to build whatever they need to survive and thrive. When a band of pirates arrive on the island, however, the family faces their greatest challenge as Father's knowledge of chemistry, weapons and strategy is put to the test.
