PG-13
Take the Lead is a romantic dramatic film directed by Liz Friedlander that follows dance instructor Pierre Dulaine (Antonio Banderas) whose discovery of a young teenager, Rock (Rob Brown), vandalizing a school principal's car leads him to come up with a unique detention: ballroom dancing. Despite the inner-city kids' hardened attitudes and immediate dismissal of the Dulaine, he ultimately gains their interest when he brings in other dancers, such as the sexy and haughty Morgan (Katya Virshilas) and the cotillion-pressured Caitlin (Lauren Collins). When Rock is kicked out of his house after his brother's killed in a gang fight, he hides out in the school's basement. The plan worked until LaRhette (Yaya DaCosta), another student who hates him, goes there after fighting with one of her mother's johns. As the students continue to work on their skills of ballroom dancing, they are given the chance to prove themselves with entries in a competition with a $5000 prize. Take the Lead is based on the true story of dance instructor Pierre Dulaine who took dance into the classroom.moreless
