Teenage Dirtbag, written and direct by Regina Crosby, was based on the true story of a high school friendship that developed despite social and economic barriers. Amber Lane (Noa Hegesh) is one of the teenage elite, a cheerleader who is beautiful, popular and wealthy. Thayer Mangeris (Scott Michael Foster) is a social outcast; raised by apathetic parents, he taunts his fellow students, including Amber, and frequently acts out in school. Although Amber and Thayer initially dislike one another, that changes after they are assigned to the same creative writing class. Over time, their ability to express themselves through poetry helps them develop a deep connection with one another. As the movie progresses, the pair become increasingly frustrated that their differences prevent them from expressing their feelings for each other in front of their family and friends. Amber and Thayer must decide whether their new relationship is worth the effort or if they should simply give up.
