Tell It to a Star is set during the 1940s in sunny Palm Springs, Florida. Gene Ritchie (Robert Livingston) is a band leader staying at the Hotel Tamirand. He is rehearsing with his lead singer, Mona St. Clair (Lorna Gray), when he receives a mysterious note from the hotel's cigarette girl, Carol Lambert (Ruth Terry). While Carol tries to launch her singing career, her uncle Ambrose Morgan, a dashing con-man, pays a visit to the hotel with plans to swindle the wealthy guests. Carol gets in hot water with the hotel manager for bothering Gene about a singing audition and gets fired. Uncle Ambrose comes to the rescue and, using his abundant charm, has Carol reinstated. With her uncle to thank for her job, she becomes less resistant of his manipulations and unwittingly assists in his con job. Carol gets her chance in the limelight and astonishes everyone with a stellar performance, but she must resist the wiles of her conniving uncle if she wants to leave the Hotel Tamirand with her reputation and career intact.moreless
