Ten, written and directed by Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, is a daring movie which unveils the feelings and outlooks of modern Iranian women while showcasing their unique cultural diversity. Through the eyes of a female driver in Tehran (Mania Akbari), we listen to the stories of ten different women from ten different walks of life who are all struggling for a common goal of equality and dignity in Iranian society. The surprising conversation the driver has with a prostitute is offset the next day by a devout religious woman on her way to pray. Several other discussions with a scorned bride and even her own sister bring this movie to a delightful climax as it opens up the mysterious, and often overlooked lives and emotions of Iranian women to show what they believe about equality, religion, sex, and love. This truly unique movie will change everything you think about Middle Eastern women.
