Texas Lady is a western that has a bit of romance, action and mystery. In the beginning, Prudence Webb (Claudette Colbert) goes to run her deceased father's newspaper, the Clarion, in Fort Ralston, Texas. Her good looks and feisty attitude gain her the affection of several suitors. Chris Mooney (Barry Sullivan) meets Prudence on a gambling river boat. She takes all of his money and his heart. He tries throughout the film to win her heart, even though she blames him for her father's suicide. Once Prudence gets to Fort Ralston, she encounters many obstacles. First, the owner of Clarion, Clay Ballard (Douglas Fowley), disputes her claim to the Clarion as false. Then she tries to get the lawyer, Cass Gower (James Bell), to settle the matter, but he drunkenly refuses for fear of the town founder. Micah Ralston (Ray Collins) is the founder, who runs his town like a dictator and using deputies to make sure everyone falls in line.moreless
