Thank God It’s Friday is a 1978 film featuring a large ensemble cast about a hodge-podge of characters who meet on Friday night at a hopping disco where the Commodores are going to perform. There are sixteen central characters, ranging from a mismatched odd couple on their first blind date to two married squares who get more than they bargained for out of their night at the club. Jeff Goldblum plays Tony Di Marco, the lecherous club owner who prowls the dance floor for women. Debra Winger plays Jennifer, the new girl in town who gets a tour of the local night life by her new know-it-all friend. Disco diva Donna Summer appears as Nicole Sims, an aspiring disco star. Summer performs her original song “Last Dance,” which won the 1979 Academy Award for Best Original Song. Thank God It’s Friday is a fun call-back to the days of disco, when the colorful clubs were dominated by flashy outfits and even flashier personalities.moreless
