The Absent-Minded Professor is a 1961 Walt Disney comedy about a bumbling professor that creates a flying rubber substance called Flubber. Professor Ned Brainard (Fred MacMurray) is a physical chemist at the fictitious Medfield College. After creating an energy-gaining substance, Professor Brainard reverses a sign in the equation, which makes Flubber. In his excitement over the invention, he misses his own wedding to Betsy Carlisle (Nancy Olson). Although Professor Brainard believes in the relevance of his invention, most people are not interested. It is only after his demonstration where Flubber makes a Model T fly that people begin to take notice. Professor Brainard uses Flubber for other tactics such as attaching it to the bottom of the basketball team's sneakers so they can jump higher and attaching it to his own shoes to shore up his dancing skills. Now that the material is considered viable, Professor Brainard must thwart theft attempts by shady businessman Alonzo Hawk (Keenan Wynn), who wants to use it for his own devices.moreless
