The Adventures of Kitty O'Day is a comical murder mystery from the early days of Hollywood. Kitty O'Day (Jean Parker), a switchboard operator at the Townley Hotel, hears gun shots over the phone one day and immediately calls the police. Inspector Clancy (Tim Ryan) and police detective Mike (Ralph Sanford) can't find a body, and suspect that Kitty and her hapless boyfriend Johnny Jones (Peter Cookson) are playing amateur detective again and don't believe there is a case. Kitty and Johnny must find the missing dead body and search for clues on their own. When jewelry goes missing from the hotel safe, and two more dead bodies show up at the hotel, Kitty and Johnny find themselves with plenty of suspects. There's a lying widow, Gloria Williams (Lorna Gray), a nosy insurance investigator named Tracey (Bill Ruhl) and a suspicious hotel manager Sauter (Bill Forrest). Director William Beaudine maintains a light and silly tone throughout this enjoyable 1945 lark.
