The Age of Ballyhoo is a 1973 documentary about life in the Roaring Twenties narrated by Gloria Swanson. As a legendary star of silent films, Gloria revels in the richness of the period that featured Valentino, top Broadway shows, flappers and dance-offs, the end of World War I, gangsters, prohibition, Model T's and other events that marked the decade. Through film footage, newsreels, photographs, songs and movies, the film showcases such events as Lindbergh's flight to Paris, and clips from Mary Pickford, Warren G. Harding, Douglas Fairbanks, as well as songs from musical legends such as Bessie Smith and Helen Kane. Also featured are clips from Gloria Swanson's silent movies and from Valentino's famous funeral. The documentary highlights the fashions, movies, music and all things that made the Roaring Twenties a memorable time in America's history when times were good, and people were overjoyed because the war was over they had a chance to enjoy themselves through the thick and thin of the 1920's.moreless
