The Alligator People is a classic 1950s science fiction B-movie. The film tells the story of Paul (Richard Crane) and Joyce Webster (Beverly Garland) as they take a train for their honeymoon vacation. While unloading passengers at a station, Paul is given an urgent telegram that requires him to make a phone call. He gets off the train never to return. Years later, Joyce finds Paul in the deep South on his family's estate. However, she does not find him as she remembers him. He has become an alligator-man. The story is told through the flashbacks of Jane Marvin, aka Joyce Webster, who had repressed the traumatic memories of the alligator people and begun a new life. The film also features hook-handed alligator hunter Manon, played by man of a thousand faces, Lon Chaney Jr., who takes Joyce on her tour of the terrifying land of the alligator people. The Alligator People, once shown with The Fly as a terrifying double feature, is the pinnacle of 1950s monster movies.moreless
