The Amateurs is a 2005 comedy starring Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges in a story about six friends who, unsatisfied with the middle-class, dead-end lives they lead, decide to make a feature-length adult film to launch them into a new age of wealth and success. Bridges plays Andy Sargentee, a man who has never quite found his place in life. He's divorced and forced to watch his ex-wife prosper with her rich new husband. His son prefers living with his wealthy mother, so Andy hatches a plan to get him back on top he'll make a porn film with some of the other locals. Ted Danson plays Moose, a self-conscious gay man trying fruitlessly to stay in the closet, and Joe Pantoliano plays Some Idiot, who directs the porno. As the film progresses, the gang gets closer to releasing their masterpiece, but the filming process has earned them a few enemies in their small town. The Amateurs is an inventive comedy with an all-star cast, from writer-director Michael Traeger.
