The Andromeda Strain is a 1971 science fiction thriller about a deadly virus. In the remote New Mexico town of Piedmont, a space satellite crashes and spreads a lethal microbe that wipes out the population with the exception of an old man and a small infant. The Air Force declares an emergency and brings in the scientific experts to contain the potentially worldwide biological threat. Dr. Jeremy Stone (Arthur Hill) takes the survivors to Wildfire, a hidden lab facility buried deep within the desert with an expert team of scientists: Dr. Charles Dutton (David Wayne), Dr. Ruth Leavitt (Kate Reid) and Dr. Mark Hall (James Olson). The researchers must discover how the two survivors resisted the virus, but the microbe begins to mutate in the lab environment, making their work near impossible. Oscar winner Robert Wise ("The Sound of Music") directs this chilling thriller based on the best-selling novel by Michael Crichton (Jurassic Park").
