The Assassin is a 1952 mystery film that was directed by Ralph Thomas. The movie starts with British Private Investigator Edward Mercer (Richard Todd) traveling to Italy in search of World War II hero, Renzo Occello (John Gregson). A French insurance company has hired Mercer to find Occello because they want to reward him for his act of heroism during the war, or at least that is the story they tell Mercer. Mercer arrives in Venice and plans to meet with his first contact person, but when he arrives at the meeting location he finds that his contact has been murdered. Mercer continues to follow the trail, which leads him straight to Adrianna (Eva Bartok), who is Occello's wife. As Mercer continues his search, he has become aware that he is now under suspicion of the Italian police for murder. Now he not only has to find Occello, but he must stay clear of Police Chief Spaloni (George Coulouris) who seems out to get him. The secrets that he uncovers along the way will put his life in even more danger.moreless
