The Assignment is an action-packed 1997 crime thriller film directed by Christian Duguay. When US Navy Lieutenant Commander Annibal Ramirez (Aidan Quinn) is vacationing in Israel, he is mysteriously picked up by the authorities and subjected to a harsh interrogation by an agent named Amos (Ben Kingsley) for crimes he knows nothing about. When the US government becomes involved, they discover that Ramirez looks almost exactly like the wanted terrorist Carlos the Jackal. CIA agent Jack Shaw (Donald Sutherland) recruits Ramirez on a mission to impersonate and turn the tables on the Jackal, to bring his crime syndicate down from the inside. He agrees, and proceeds to undergo some in-depth training on how to successfully impersonate Carlos, culminating in a sultry lovemaking session with one of the terrorist's former mates. But shortly after he passes muster and begins his mission, Ramirez finds himself in one impossible situation after another and, even if he survives it all, his life may be changed forever.
