The Astonished Heart is a 1950 English drama directed by Terence Fisher and starring Celia Johnson, Noel Coward, and Margaret Leighton. The film opens with Barbara Faber (Johnson) calling Leonora Vail (Leighton) to inform her that Dr. Christian Faber (Coward) has lost consciousness. The film then flashes back a year to detail the forming of the relationship between the three protagonists. Barbara and Leonora have not seen each other in many years, but upon their reunion they discover that they are still as close as can be. Christian, Barbara's husband, is a psychologist, and when he and Leonora meet, it is clear that they do not get along. One night, however, Barbara and Christian have tickets to go see a play, but when Barbara has to go take care of her mother, Leonora goes in her stead. The two hit it off and a relationship is formed, unbeknownst to Barbara.
