The Awakening is a 1980 horror thriller film directed by Mike Newell. Matthew Corbeck (Charlton Heston) is a renowned archaeologist who is obsessed with uncovering an archaeological find that will cement his reputation. He travels to Egypt with his pregnant wife, Anne (Jill Townsend), and his devoted assistant, Jane (Susannah York). While his wife is giving birth to Matthew's first child, he is not at her side. Instead, he has finally discovered the tomb of Queen Kara, a mysterious and reportedly evil Egyptian figure. Years pass, and Matthew has successfully transferred Queen Kara's sarcophagus to an Egyptian museum. Anne divorced him after his shameful behavior and now lives with their daughter, Margaret (Stephanie Zimbalist), in New York, while Matthew and Jane live in England. When Matthew is called to the museum to help tend to Queen Kara's tomb, Margaret suddenly decides to accompany her father. Happy to repair the emotional damage, Matthew accepts. It soon becomes clear, however, that Margaret is no ordinary teenager. Supernatural destruction follows her wherever she goes, and Matthew suspects that his daughter might be connected to the evil Egyptian queen.moreless
