The Bank is a 2001 Australian dramatic thriller directed by Robert Connolly. This film is set in Melbourne, Australia, and deals with the highs and lows of banking practices. Jim Doyle (David Wenham) is a gifted mathematician who has developed a new theory that allows users to predict the outcome of just about anything. Simon O'Reilly (Anthony LaPaglia) is a greedy senior banking executive who is under pressure from the bank president to earn bigger profits. The bank executive learns about Doyle's theory and relentlessly recruits him to come work for the bank. The mathematician is not a greedy man, but he takes the job in hopes of being able to help people. He feels if he can predict the rise and fall of the stock market he can warn people so they have enough time to react and protect themselves. Will Jim's theory help average people protect themselves, or will Simon manipulate the mathematician to make more profits for the bank?moreless
