The Beast is an American war film set during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan about the often confusing role honor plays in war. Directed by Kevin Reynolds, The Beast tells the story of a lone Soviet tank which, after decimating an Afghan village, is cut off from its allies and hunted by a band of rebel fighters bent on revenge. Commander Daskal (George Dzundza) is a brutal tank commander who despises the enemy, as well as his own men. After Commander Daskal and his men destroy the village, Taj (Steven Bauer) finds himself the new leader of the surviving villagers. Taj leads his men on a hunt for Daskal's tank through the valleys of the countryside. As the hunt progresses, Daskal reveals himself to be crueller than his crew could ever imagine, forcing his men to face a difficult choice between serving an unjust and heartless master, or allying with the enemy who once hunted them so fiercely.
