The Beautician and The Beast is a 1997 romantic comedy starring Fran Drescher and Timothy Dalton as the title characters. Drescher also served as co-producer on the film. Ira Grushinsky (Ian McNeice), a Slovetzian diplomat, has been dispatched to America to locate a suitable tutor for his President's three children. Joy Miller (Drescher) has just lost her beauty school in a fire, but managed to lead all of her students to safety. Her heroism is highlighted in a newspaper article, and when Grushinsky sees the article, he mistakenly believes she's an academic teacher and offers her the job. Joy naturally assumes she's being hired as a cosmetology teacher, and accepts the position. Chaos and hilarity ensue when Joy lands in the European nation of Slovetzia. When Grushinsky realizes his mistake, he begs Joy to keep up the facade. President Boris Pochenko (Dalton) is a quite humorless man, and Grushinsky fears for his job should the President learn the truth. Against all odds, Joy and the tyrant leader develop romantic feelings for each other, but their relationship faces obstacles. Can the American beautician tame her ferocious beast?
