The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a 1982 musical comedy from director and co-writer Colin Higgins. The Chicken Ranch brothel has been operating in Texas for over fifty years. Not only does the local law enforcement turn a blind eye to the illegal activities at Miss Mona's (Dolly Parton) brothel, Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd (Burt Reynolds) has carried on an affair with Miss Mona for years. The Chicken Ranch is a local institution in Gilbert, Texas, a place where boys become men. The brothel has a reputation for high moral standards and good, clean fun. The Ranch is well accepted by most of the townspeople, and even the Governor (Charles Durning) has been known to make a stop at Miss Mona's place. When crusading right-wing television reporter Melvin P. Thorpe (Dom DeLuise) comes to town, intent on shutting the ranch down, Miss Mona realizes all the support she's had in the past from Ed Earl and the Governor is evaporating. It's up to Miss Mona and her girls to find a way to keep their beloved Chicken Ranch open.moreless
