The Big Easy is a 1987 romantic thriller starring Dennis Quaid, Ellen Barkin, John Goodman, and Ned Beatty. The film is praised by many critics for its interesting, well-developed characters and suspenseful plot. Remy McSwain (Dennis Quaid) is a New Orleans police officer who bends the law every now and again. When a local gangster is murdered, he sets out to investigate the surrounding scenes. Remy's laid-back, easy-going nature is quelled when a strict, out of state District Attorney named Anne Osborne (Ellen Barkin) stops by to inspect suspicious police activity. Her assumptions about the corrupt ways of the town are somewhat confirmed when Remy takes her to dinner, winks at the waiter, and dodges paying the bill. Anne is appalled by Remy's dishonest schemes, but underneath their outward dislike for one another lies a strong physical attraction. They begin seeing each other, but their relationship is compromised when Remy is caught accepting a bribe in a sting operation. Now Anne is burdened with his prosecution. Can Remy and Anne overcome their differences and continue a passionate romance?

    Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

The Big Easy is one of the richest American films of the year. It also happens to be a great thriller.

The film's strength is director Jim McBride's seemingly easy way of presenting us with a New Orleans that is more malevolent and intoxicating than the tourist trap that some think ...

The Big Easy is an extremely enjoyable (and well-lubricated) vehicle for two actors who aren't quite yet stars, but should be.
